Celebrating Mums of Alums and Their Enduring Impact
April 23rd, 2025

“You’ve nurtured, loved, and guided not only your own children but also the broader Episcopal family. Your involvement, your time, and your dedication have helped to shape the foundation upon which this school continues to thrive.” Dr. Carrie Steakley, Head of School
When Episcopal alumni mothers gather for the annual Mums of Alums luncheon, it is a celebration of the roles these incredible women play in school traditions and student success. As Dr. Steakley looked out at the gathered crowd, she expressed gratitude, pride and joy for the women who have left their mark on the school they love. “Your tireless efforts have made a profound impact on our students, our faculty, and our entire community,” she said. “Your support has enriched our school’s culture and made Episcopal truly a special place where young minds are challenged, nurtured, and prepared for the future.”

This year’s luncheon was hosted by alumni mum and former educator Margaret Boudreaux, whose family has been connected to Episcopal from the very beginning. Mrs. Boudreaux’s father, Mr. G. Allen Penniman, Jr., was one of the original stakeholders in establishing a new, independent school for the Baton Rouge community. All these years later, Mrs. Boudreaux still recalls that her father always said, “Not a day goes by that I don’t think about Episcopal.” The same can be said for Mrs. Boudreaux, who has given so much to the Episcopal community. She graduated from Episcopal in 1976 and chose an Episcopal education for her own children. She was also a beloved member of the Lower School faculty for 16 years.
Like Dr. Steakley, Mrs. Boudreaux highlighted the importance of a school like Episcopal to the Greater Baton Rouge community. She and her family understand that Baton Rouge will always need a place like Episcopal to prepare tomorrow’s leaders. After Dr. Steakley shared with the mums that Episcopal’s focus is growing the endowment, Mrs. Boudreaux emphasized the importance of this effort. She told those gathered that her father was always focused on the endowment and would be so grateful that the school continues to grow for generations.
Mrs. Boudreaux and the gathered mums can rest assured that the school they support so wholeheartedly is flourishing. Dr. Steakley pointed out how the current mums continue to support students as heads of the Parents’ Guild, Squires and Arts Krewe. “They help raise funds for our school as leaders of The eFund,” she said. “They help our cafeteria staff serve food to our students, create tailgates for our community, enhance the student experience by providing treats for every division.” Mums do all of this and so much more. “Our school culture and mission is not possible without these supportive efforts…powered by moms!” said Dr. Steakley.
Thank you to all of the moms and grandmothers who make Episcopal such a special community. It is a privilege to celebrate your contributions each year.
