Mission Statement & Overview
The Thesis Program at the Episcopal School of Baton Rouge seeks to amplify student passions and nurture intellectual discovery through personalized mentoring of each student toward an original and ambitious Thesis project that reflects the student’s self-awareness, steady academic and social/emotional growth, and their development as a young scholar. We are a community of generous thinkers. Our students are intellectually curious and fascinated by their world. They derive pleasure and meaning and energy from open-ended discussions that tackle topics with no right or wrong answer. Thesis Program students value their personal growth and development over external rewards like grades or test scores. Their journey through this program is highly personalized, focused on goals specific to the individual, both character-oriented and academic. Our students are compelled to learn for learning’s sake and believe that scholarship’s highest calling is its potential to be shared in order to inspire others toward dialogue or change. The program gives students a real-world, real-time opportunity to follow inquiries, articulate a vision, problem-solve, practice empathy and grit, respond to failure, and realize personal goals.
