Episcopal Honor Code

The Episcopal Honor Code

  • I shall be honest in all matters regarding the life of the School. My word may always be trusted, and I will always strive to be fair.
  • I will always respect others and will not undermine our life together by stealing or defacing that which belongs to another.
  • I will ensure that my actions do not infringe upon the rights that others have to learn.
  • I will do all I can to defend and uphold this code and will always be ready to explain to others, especially those new to the school, that its existence is at the heart of the quality of our life together.

Even in a year where everything seems altered and different, traditions live on as an important reminder of who we are. The acknowledgement of the Episcopal Honor Code is one such tradition. Students in all divisions learn this code, which guides them in school life and personal growth. To celebrate the connection that the Honor Code provides, Upper School students sign the Honor Code book at the start of each school year. Even in 2020, that tradition continued.

Freshmen, new sophomores, juniors, seniors, faculty and staff gathered for the special occasion this week. New Episcopal Head of School Dr. Carrie Steakley also added her name to the Honor Code book as a sign that she is committed to the Episcopal community. Father Skully Knight reminded students and faculty that entering a covenant is not intended to be punitive or to push people apart. “In fact, it’s just the opposite,” he advised. “When people enter into a covenant relationship together, it is not done out of desperation or fear, but rather out of respect and love. It is something that is meant to bring people together - to build community, not destroy it.”
