Fall Sports Spotlight
September 24th, 2021
Fall sports are underway! Check out our Fall Sports Spotlight and make plans to cheer on your Knights in person. Look for a Middle School Fall Sports Spotlight coming soon in Knightly News.
Thank you to Squires! The Knights booster club voted to donate $2,000 to the Central Lafourche athletic department. Central Lafourche High School was devastated by Hurricane Ida. Go Squires!
Cross Country:
The cross country Knights hosted the 43rd Annual Round Table Run at Highland Road Park. Head Coach Claney Duplechin says the runners started the season very well. “Both our boys and girls varsity finished in the top ten in this highly competitive meet,” he says. “All schools that finished above us were upper class schools (3A, 4A, and 5A).
As far as what to expect from the team this year, the answer is simple. “Our expectations are the same every year,” says Coach Dupe. “We want to win the state title and become better people while trying to get this accomplished.” The team will get it done with seniors Justin Dynes, Quentin Messer, Mallory Botos and Analise Hyde leading the way. In addition, Coach Dupe says the Upper School runners will be joined by a couple of Middle School competitors. “We feel we will be very competitive in AA,” he says.

Football:
Update: Friday's win against Pope John Paul in Slidell was the 150th victory for Head Coach Travis Bourgeois. Congratulations!
It’s been a road start so far for the football Knights, who are currently 2 - 0. Head Coach Travis Bourgeois says while the season started like any other with new players and new positions being earned at practices and scrimmages, circumstances quickly changed. “For the second year in a row, we missed the St. Michael’s game,” he says. “Hurricane Ida canceled the game, but we are very fortunate to lose only one game.”
After weather-related schedule adjustments, the Knights took the field versus East Feliciana for a district game. Bourgeois says it did not disappoint. “It was an exciting back and forth game with the Knights holding on for a 42-35 win,” he says. Episcopal followed that contest up with a game versus Metairie Park Country Day. The Knights quickly jumped out to a 25-0 lead and held on to a 25-22 victory. Bourgeois looks forward to continued success. “With eight starters back from an undefeated regular season, the Knights will improve week after week,” he says. “Lots of new players are gaining experience and confidence with every game played.”
This year’s senior captains are Ethan Carmouche, Thomas D’Armond, Dryden Duggins and Val Rangelov. Look for big contributions from the following seniors: RJ Pickney, Brandon Franks, Clayton Braud, Parker Madison, Crawford Grigsby, David Cresson, Thomas Lee, Alex Engstrom, Carson Duval, Chris Clark and Bennett Gibson.
Mark your calendars for the first home game, which is also the 2021 Episcopal Homecoming game.

Swimming:
With six swimmers placing in the top eight in their events and a 20-year record broken, the Episcopal swim team is off to a tremendous start! “We have established talent with our seniors, and a tight group of underclassmen who continue to perform,” says Head Coach Matthew Kiggans. The six swimmers placing in the top eight in their individual events include Alexa Bennett, Abigail Gibson, Eugene Jiang, Kaitlyn Vidrine, Grace Ciesielski and Rylee Simoneaux. Rylee also broke the Episcopal girls 100 backstroke record that was set in 2001.
What’s up next for this talented team? “The girls team has a very strong chance to win state, and Eugene Jiang is determined to break every school swimming record,” says Kiggans.

Volleyball:
At 10 - 1, the volleyball Knights have already put together a successful season! Recently, the squad went 4-0 in matches played. Head Coach Madeline Gugich says one match during the recent tournament was particularly important. “Our last match of the day was against St. Michael, who beat us in our first game of the season,” she says. “We came out ready to dominate and took care of business.” After that tough first loss to a St. Michael’s team who is ranked first in their division, Gugich says the Knights learned a lot. “What we took away from that loss was more than what we had at the start of the game,” she says. “Currently being 10-1 is great, but we know we still have some tough teams ahead of us. This year will be an exciting one you won’t want to miss.”
Gugich says the expectations are high for the remainder of the season. “In all honesty, our expectation is to always give our best,” she says. “When you step foot in our gym what you will see is our team chemistry, energy, smiles, emotions, intensity and FIGHT! Whether it’s morning or afternoon practice, these girls have bought into this program and are ready to work.”
