Early Childhood Students Embark on Education Journey with Butterfly Release
August 11th, 2021
It’s hard to judge who struggles most with a child’s first day of school– families or students. The initial experience with an early childhood setting can be quite emotional for everyone. To celebrate new beginnings, transformation and growth, members of the Lower School early childhood team welcomed students and families with a special Let Go Ceremony.
Dressed in new school uniforms and carrying backpacks and nap mats double their size, the littlest Knights gathered with families in the Lower School courtyard. After a short presentation by school administrators and the teaching team, families opened brightly colored envelopes with a special surprise inside – monarch butterflies. Once let go, the little creatures soared into the August sunlight on a journey to faraway places.
In a similar way, families were then asked to let go of their little Knights as the students embarked on their own journey. Like the monarchs, students will undergo a metamorphosis becoming more independent and confident. They will develop new skills and learn new concepts. When the school year ends, the students will have enjoyed new learning experiences and made new friends along the way. While a change will certainly occur, families can trust that students will always return to the place where it all began – home.
Welcome to Episcopal, early childhood Knights! We also welcome the families and friends who support and care for these students in every phase of the journey.
