KRISTEN KIRSCHNER. ENGLISH TEACHER.SPEECH AND DEBATE COACH. MFA IN CREATIVE NON-FICTION: LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY Kristen Kirschner is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, who has been at Episcopal since 2008. After earning her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, Kristen found her way to Louisiana, where she completed her MFA in Creative Non-Fiction at Louisiana State University. With an atmosphere of community and creative expression, Kristen’s classroom is a space where students feel emboldened to take risks and question their preconceptions of the world around them through literature. In addition to teaching American Literature to sophomores and special topic seminars to seniors, Kristen teaches a speech and debate course and coaches the school’s Speech and Debate team, which, though a young program, has already produced one state champion. Kristen’s teaching philosophy most closely mirrors Galileo’s observation that, “You cannot teach a man anything, you can only help him find it within himself.” |
