Lower School Families,

It was a terrific week in the Lower School! We celebrated Peace Day on Monday and continued celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with daily presentations in Morning Meeting. 

Today’s newsletter is packed with information. There’s a lot to look forward to in October!

Important Information & Reminders

  • Support the eFund! - We’re in the final week of the all4ONE campaign and over 60% of families have contributed thanks to our amazing community! Help us get one step closer to reaching 100% and finish strong by making a gift today! Click here to make your gift!
  • Toolbox Tuesday - Mrs. Lofland’s lesson this week featured peace. You can learn about her message here.
  • In the QUEST Center this week, PK3 students created art using paper punches with various shapes and designs. PK4 students explored light and colors using prisms and color paddles. 2nd grade heard from an expert on the cardiovascular system as part of their study of the human body. 3rd grade students learned about weather and forecasting from a meteorologist. 4th graders learned about landforms and national parks from an expert with the National Park Service. 5th graders began their space museum projects as part of their reading unit on space and research.
  • After-School Clubs - Visit our school website>Resources to view our Quarter 2 After-School Clubs booklet. Enrollment closes at 3PM on Friday, 10/3. Quarter 2 clubs begin the week of 10/13.
  • Tray Helpers - If you are available to serve as a Tray Helper, we need some volunteers in October. You can sign up here or on our school website>Resources.
  • 9/30 Picture Retake Day - If you would like your child’s school picture retaken, please return the photographs to the school office by Retake Day. 
  • 10/1 Lower School Parent Coffee - Join us in the QUEST Center after our chapel service. This month’s coffee is hosted by grades 4 and 5. We’ll address a wide range of parent-requested topics: preparation for Middle School, fostering student friendships, and growing student independence. ALL Lower School parents are welcome to attend! Please first check in at the Alumni House.
  • 10/2 $1 for 10/3 Pink - Episcopal is proud to stand with Woman’s Hospital in the fight against breast cancer. On Thursday, October 2nd, Lower School students are invited to donate $1 to wear pink on 10/3 in support of Woman’s Hospital’s BUST Breast Cancer initiative. Let’s show our spirit, raise awareness, and build community. Together, we can make a difference!
  • 10/2 Blessing of the Animals - The Annual St Francis Blessing of the Pets will be held on this day 3:45 on the front lawn. All friendly pets and family animals are welcome, as well as photos or stuffed animals representing other pets who might not be able to come or who might not enjoy strangers or other animals. Please join us as we celebrate our beloved fur babies and the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
  • 10/3 Pink Out Day - Students are invited to both show school spirit and support the fight against breast cancer (with or without a $1 donation) by wearing all pink on this day. Geaux Knights! 
  • Saturday, 10/4 St. Jude Walk, Baton Rouge - Please consider supporting our community-wide service project and join Team Talyn. The event takes place at A. Z. Young Park: 
    • 7:00 AM - Registration and Activities Open
    • 8:00 AM - Opening Ceremony
    • 8:20 AM - Kids Dash Start Time
    • 8:30 AM - Walk & 5k Start Time
  • 10/6 & 10/7 No School - Fall Break!
  • 10/6 - 10/10 Episcopal Schools Week - Students will celebrate this special week in a variety of ways, including a visit from Bishop Shannon! I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10
  • 10/10 - 10/12 5th - 8th Grade High School Musical Jr. - There’s something for everyone in High School Musical Jr! From jocks and brainiacs to thespians and cheerleaders, this show has it all! Watch as the students of East High discover what happens when they break the status quo and come together through music, basketball, friendship, and fun.  Full of energy and heart, this show is perfect for the whole family. Tickets are on sale now - HERE!
  • 10/13 - 10/17 Homecoming Week! Students may wear Karnival Knight t-shirts (old or new) with uniform bottoms all week! To celebrate Homecoming, Lower School students are invited to show their school spirit each day:
    • Monday - Cool Shades Day: Wear your favorite sunglasses!
    • Tuesday - Hat Day: Wear your favorite hat! Students may also wear a Team Talyn t-shirt.
    • Wednesday - No School - Parent-Teacher Conference Day
    • Thursday - Silly Socks Day: Wear your best pair of silly socks!
    • Friday - Karnival Knight Day: Today’s the day! 
  • 10/15 Parent-Teacher Conference Day - No School for Lower & Middle School Students! Links to sign up for conference times are in today’s parent email.
  • 10/17 Karnival Knight - This begins at 3:30 PM. Dismissal will take a different form on this day.
    • All Lower School students attending Karnival Knight must be picked up from their homeroom class. Park in the lot by the football stadium, in the lot near the pool, the Frazer lot, or on Chapelwood Drive and walk to your child’s homeroom for pickup.
    • Students not attending Karnival Knight must be picked up at the carpool circle. 
    • There is no extended care on 10/17.
  • 10/20 Lower School Volleyball Spirit Knight - Save this date! A special Knight of spirit is planned for all Lower School students attending the home volleyball game, which begins at 4:30 PM. More details are here!
  • 10/28 ISACS Parent Series - How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Impacted Everything + What We Can Do About It (Jonathan Haidt).  
  • 10/31 Halloween
    • Costumes: Students may wear Halloween costumes on Friday, October 31, all day. Costumes must be school-appropriate; nothing scary, please. Keep in mind that our youngest students may be frightened by a scary costume. No make-up, masks, hair color, props, or blow-up costumes. Wear ready-for-recess footwear!
    • Parade: Join us for the annual Halloween parade following Morning Meeting. Our security team will pass out visitor stickers to all guests in the carpool circle area. Students will parade around the school entrance, carpool circle, and the school exit. No parking on Woodland Ridge.
  • Team Talyn t-shirts purchased through our School Store will be delivered to school the week of 9/29. Donations for the family may be made through our School Store. Lower School students are invited to wear Team Talyn t-shirts, paired with uniform bottoms, on each Tuesday, designated as Team Talyn Tuesdays, and lift her in prayer as a community. On behalf of her family, thank you for your prayers and support.
