Lower School Families,
This week, 4th graders received their blessed Bibles during chapel, 1st - 5th graders joined the Fall Pep Rally, a class of 5th graders delivered donated school supplies to Melrose School, and all students participated in our first DEAR (Drop Everything and Read). It’s always a great time in the Lower School!
Important Information & Reminders
- Toolbox Tuesday - Mrs. Lofland’s lesson this week featured glimmers - Moments in your day that make you feel joy, happiness, peace, or gratitude - to add to our “toolbox” - here!
- Artsonia Artist of the Week - Our online gallery, Artsonia, chose an artist of the week candidate from Episcopal! Please vote for kindergarten student, Sayaka, here!
- Reporting Absences, Late Arrivals, or Early Dismissals Reminder - Please log in to the web-based version of PowerSchool through the Attendance Monitor to report all absences. Please note that the mobile app version of PowerSchool is not compatible with submitting attendance updates. If you need assistance accessing your PowerSchool account, please contact Casie Burley or 225-755-2720. A video with directions is also available on our Resources site.
- Hispanic Heritage Month - This is celebrated from September 15 to October 15. If you or a family member would like to share information about your Hispanic heritage, a country, favorite dishes, or traditions, please contact our Spanish teacher, Sabrina Moreira. She’s looking for Morning Meeting & classroom speakers.
- In the QUEST Center this week, Early Childhood students drew self-portraits while looking in the mirror and built with a variety of materials. They also enjoyed creating with Styrofoam pieces, golf tees, and hammers in the Tinkering Center. 2nd graders learned to use microscopes to view and sketch different types of cells as they begin their study of the human body. 5th graders explored block coding by animating their names in Scratch and coded a short story.
- 9/10 Lower School Parent Coffee - I hope you’ll join us for our first Parent Coffee of the school year! This parent coffee begins at 8:30 in the QUEST Center. It’s an open forum - bring any questions you’d like about the school year. I’ll also share some exciting highlights for the year ahead!
- 9/11 America Spirit Day - Students are invited to dress in red, white, and blue to show school spirit for the home football game. Spirit ribbons will also be sold at morning carpool; $1 each.
- 9/17 No School - Lower School Only - Please mark your calendars for this upcoming no school day - for Lower School students only. This is a professional development day for Lower School teachers.
- 9/30 Picture Retake Day - If you would like your child’s school picture retaken, please write RETAKE on the envelope of your child's photo packet and return it to the Lower School Office by Retake Day.
- Team Talyn t-shirts may be purchased through our School Store, with all proceeds going directly to the family. Orders placed by 9/15 will be delivered to school the week of 9/29. Additional donations for the family may also be made through our School Store. Lower School students are invited to wear Team Talyn t-shirts, paired with uniform bottoms, on each Tuesday, designated as Team Talyn Tuesdays, and lift her in prayer as a community. On behalf of her family, thank you for your prayers and support.
- Saturday, 10/4 St. Jude Walk, Baton Rouge - If you’d like to support St. Jude, please consider joining our school team - Team Talyn. The event takes place at A. Z. Young Park:
- 7:00 AM - Registration and Activities Open
- 8:00 AM - Opening Ceremony
- 8:20 AM - Kids Dash Start Time
- 8:30 AM - Walk & 5k Start Time
