New and Returning Fall Knight School Courses Begin in October!

September 5th, 2024

Knight School returns this fall with the opportunity to dance in Mamou, learn Nonna’s family sauce recipe and play the ukelele. Episcopal educators will offer seven exciting and inspiring classes that showcase the depth of knowledge, expertise and excellence that have served students well for six decades.

Middle School history teacher Julie Weaver introduced the Knight School concept to the Episcopal community last year. She says the classes are an excellent opportunity for teachers and families to connect beyond the parent/teacher relationship. After last year’s success, she recalls Knight School participants appreciating the chance to see their child’s teacher in action and learn more about them as a person. Incredibly, several of Weaver’s seventh grade students even recommended that their parents take the class this year.

This fall, Weaver’s course will cover the history of the Holocaust with several new components added. “I thought I was well educated on the Holocaust, but each year as I prepare to teach this unit, I find that there is so much more to learn,” she says. For example, Weaver knew that music was a part of the daily life of camp prisoners, but she just learned of the discovery of fragments of sheet music composed by prisoners of Auschwitz that have now been restored and performed as recently as November of 2023.  She looks forward to discussing and sampling the sounds with class participants.

New Opportunities for Learning and Returning Favorites

For those interested in delving deeper into the history of religion and learning more about new Head Chaplain, Father Patrick Edwards, the new Survey of US Religious History course is an ideal option. Always a popular topic, Madame Runge returns to Knight School to offer instructions on family recipes and French and Italian culture. In addition, Dr. Elizabeth Lewis will offer tips to nurture creative talents, and Lower School music teacher Jordan Tupper will help aspiring ukelele and guitar players develop their musical skills. Coach Dupe will once again offer Cajun dance lessons, with several new moves on the agenda. To show off what they learn, students will join him in Mamou for dancing and Cajun cuisine.

Knight School is the perfect opportunity for families and the community to experience firsthand the excellence offered by Episcopal educators. Whether you take one course or all six, you are sure to learn something new and leave with a host of new friends and connections.

Don’t miss your opportunity to learn from Episcopal educators. Knight School will only be offered in the fall this school year to accommodate the busy event schedules of the spring.
