Mia Pulliam '23 Signs with Rhodes College
April 26th, 2023
“Train hard, reach out to coaches, and most importantly do your research on colleges – find a place you’ll be happy both as a student and as an athlete.” Mia Pulliam, Class of 2023
Veteran track & field and cross country athlete Mia Pulliam will lace up her sneakers for the Rhodes College Lynx in the fall. “Even on the outside I saw that Rhodes is a beautiful place, and the minute I actually stepped on campus I discovered so much more,” says Mia. “The community there is filled with friends, professors, and coaches who want to see you succeed, and you just feel that you are surrounded by people who want to see you succeed and grow.”
A Fierce Competitor
Through seven years of track and six years of cross country, Mia has certainly grown. “Mia is a big integral part of our girls track success,” says Coach Bill Jones. “She’s a fierce competitor. When she’s out there you never have any doubt that she’s going to give her all.” This year, Mia is one of the team’s captains, and Coach Dupe praised her for competing in four events in the state meet – a feat he says is “very hard to do.”
Double the Opportunities
The array of opportunities provided at Rhodes is an ideal fit for Mia. “It is a university with equally impressive academic and athletic programs,” she says. “This is an amazing opportunity for me to pursue an education in international studies while still being able to compete at the collegian level with a great team of motivated coaches and athletes.” Mia hopes to double major in international studies and political science and minor in Spanish.
Now that she’s achieved her goal of competing at the next level, Mia has the following advice for classmates. “I would tell anyone who wishes to pursue athletics in college to go for it and to start putting in the work as early as possible.”
