2022 Episcopal Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees
September 26th, 2022
Many people dream of being a Hall of Famer, but only a few achieve it. Episcopal celebrates two new members of the Athletic Hall of Fame this fall – Trey Godfrey III ’97 and Myra Mansur.
Trey Godfrey III '97
Multi-sport athlete Trey Godfrey left a lasting mark on the Knights as a decorated football, basketball, and track and field athlete. Since graduating from Episcopal and Tulane University, Godfrey has also made his mark on the Greater Baton Rouge region. He is currently the Senior Vice President of Policy for the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, helping to shape the area’s business growth and talent development. Before that, he was the Executive Director of the 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge. As Executive Director, he expanded membership and launched programs related to economic development, mentoring, entrepreneurship and education. He is an accomplished public speaker and community advocate.
“My time at EHS was transformational at a pivotal time in my life. From forming lifelong friendship bonds to further developing my spiritual and moral compass, I point to my time as a Knight as one that shaped the man I would become. There are so many experiences, so many people, and so many opportunities I was afforded through my time at Episcopal, in the classroom and on and off the field, the court, and the track.”
Football:
3-year varsity letterman
1996 District Champion
1st Team All-District – wide receiver and defensive back
1st Team All-Metro – defensive back
Honorable Mention All-State – defensive back
Basketball:
3-year varsity letterman
Led Episcopal in assists in 1995 and 1996
Track and Field:
3-year varsity letterman
3X District Champion
3X Regional Champion
1996 State Champion
1995 State Champion – 400m Relay
1995 State Champion – 800m Relay
1996 State Champion – 1600m Relay
In addition to these honors, Godfrey holds school records in the 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m relay and 800m relay. In fact, he graduated with half of the school’s top 20 performances of all time in the 100m and 200m dash.
Athletic Director Randy Richard is pleased to see Godfrey honored. “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Trey since our BREC ball playing days as kids,” he says. “Trey stands out for many reasons, but first and foremost Trey is a good person and he has never wavered in that regard. I’m proud to know him and it’s an honor to see him inducted in the Episcopal Hall of Fame.”
Myra Mansur
In many ways, longtime Athletic Director Myra Mansur changed the Episcopal athletic experience. She wrote the Athletic Handbook, established the Athletic Hall of Fame, hired the first athletic trainer, oversaw gym and softball facility renovations and founded the Episcopal Drum Corps. She was an advocate for equality in sports and ensured that female athletes had ample opportunities to compete.
“Episcopal was more than a job to me; it was my life for 25 years. Being at school with my sons was such a gift. There are so many wonderful memories, from bus rides and PE classes to team retreats, practices and all athletic events. However, what I keep near and dear to me are the relationships – my athletes, students, coaching peers, faculty, administrators and Squires. Thank you, I loved my time as a Knight.”
1998 – 2016 Episcopal Athletic Director
1997 – 2004 Episcopal Head Softball Coach
1991 – 1998 Episcopal Head Volleyball Coach
2X Recipient of the Louisiana High School Athletic Director of the Year Award
Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame
1994 Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Coach of the Year
2X All-Metro Volleyball Coach of the Year
15X District Coach of the Year
Leadership roles with Louisiana High School Athletic Association and the Louisiana High School Athletic Director’s Association
“Make no bones about it, Myra Mansur is the reason Episcopal Athletics is the success story you see today,” says Richard. “Many of the leadership qualities in our coaches and the foundation we continue to build on stem from her dreams to reality approach during her time here. She has created a lasting legacy of leadership, ownership, and growth that you see in our athletic programs each and every day.”
Godfrey and Mansur will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame during halftime of the September 30th football game versus Ascension Catholic. Make plans to attend and congratulate them on this honor.
