Future Teacher Finds Career Inspiration at Episcopal
May 3rd, 2022
Lucy Pellegrin hopes to be an elementary education teacher like her mentor Liz Crawford.
Senior Lucy Pellegrin plans to major in Elementary Education at LSU and reflects on the experiences that led to her realization that being a teacher was a dream she wished to pursue!
When I first arrived at Episcopal in sixth grade I was nervous, excited, and unsure of what to expect. Previously, I had spent my whole life from ages four to eleven at St. James and was part of a tight-knit community. I had many friends who were making this transition with me, and it wasn’t long until I found my new home at Episcopal. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to have meaningful interactions with all the aspects that Episcopal has offered. Even though I didn’t go to Lower School here, I was able to take a look into the program as I got older, whether it was visiting the Greer Center, seeing my cheer coach teach her class or my Kindergarten buddy I have connected with during my senior year. I quickly learned that from my experiences through education and impactful teachers, my dream of becoming a teacher was going to become a reality.

I have always been inspired by the way kids think, and most importantly, the decisions they make. The most developmental years of one's life are the years of early childhood, and I knew that I wanted to choose a career path that would inspire kids to be brave and courageous. My Lower School teachers made me the person I am today, and I would not be the person I am without their kind words and guidance. Through my high school years at Episcopal, I have watched my Cheer coach, Ms. Crawford in the classroom, and through the way she has impacted my life, I know she has touched the lives of children around her. When I graduate from LSU, I hope to use her methods and those of other teachers around me to influence my students' lives.
I have always wanted to teach at a school like Episcopal because it brings an aspect of family and community. Everybody is so involved with everything going on at Episcopal, whether it is High School football games or the Lower School Karnival Knight, and I love how supportive every division is of each other. Episcopal is one of the only schools where this occurs, and to teach somewhere like this would be a blessing. I have always felt supported by my teachers and if there ever was an issue, I felt comfortable going to those above me. My teachers had forgiveness for me when I was learning, and I still feel like I can count on them if I am facing a problem. Episcopal has inspired me to pursue my dreams of teaching, and with mentors like the teachers I have now, I feel supported in these dreams.
