Lower School Happenings
February 23rd, 2022
See You on 3/3/33!
First graders celebrated 2/22/22 in historic fashion! Students buried a time capsule filled with letters from parents, teachers and students. The capsule also includes a list of the students’ favorite things and predictions for 3/3/33, which will be their senior year at Episcopal. The students will gather again in 11 years as seniors to remember the moment and look through their treasures.
The Paw Patrol in Pollard Library
Pet therapy dogs Ryder, Ranger, Toshi and Malarkey stopped by Pollard Library for snuggles and reading with Lower School students. The young Knights were thrilled to share a story with their furry friends. A special thanks to members of the Louisiana Capital City Obedience Club for sharing their companions with us.
History in the QUEST Center
Fifth graders reviewed the events leading up to the Revolutionary War recently in social studies. To bring the lesson to life, students dressed in period costumes and held a mock Town Hall discussion on what 1763 England could do about the country’s debt at the time. Students played the part of historical figures including Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson, King George III and Paul Revere.
Future Entrepreneurs Pitch Episcopal Shark Tank
After an extensive lesson on entrepreneurship and business, third graders pitched their ideas to a group of shark tank investors. Head of School Dr. Carrie Steakley, Father Skully Knight, Coach Heidi Hebert and Lower School Division Head Beth Gardner listened intently as students shared their ideas for everything from 3D printed toys and remote-control playsets to a pizzeria and dog sitting endeavor. Are you ready to invest?
Enchanted Engineering Lesson Comes to a Fitting Conclusion
What happens when the big bad pig and the little mermaid appear in the same story? Ariel saves the day by removing the pig from the castle, of course! That’s just one example of first graders’ recent Force Fit Fairy Tales. Students shared their tales as the finale of the annual Enchanted Engineering unit. Each story highlighted all the students learned and their skills at building and using simple machines.
Learning Can be a Wild Ride
Fourth graders celebrated everything they’ve learned about energy by designing and building their own roller coasters. Using only newspaper and tape, the students created designs that any coaster enthusiast would love.
A Chilly Lesson in the QUEST Center
After a lengthy study of winter-related topics, young Knights had the opportunity to read a book inside an igloo! The Louisiana igloo was constructed with recycled materials.
The World Around Us Project Brings the World to Second Graders
Second graders’ passports have been stamped! Students shared everything they’ve learned during the project-based unit “The World Around Us” with a special travel agency event in the QUEST Center. Would you like to book a trip?
