First Graders Run/Bike in Exciting Duathlon

October 11th, 2022

The home-field stands were packed with enthusiastic, cheering fans supporting Episcopal first graders in their annual duathlon. The young athletes were eager to bike and run around the track after learning about healthy lifestyle choices as part of the Healthy Selves project-based lesson.  Lower School classmates were also eager to show their support for first graders, especially third grade buddies who cheered racers on at the track level. The occasion was a great example of the Episcopal community UKNIGHTING in support of student success. Congratulations, first graders!

How precious! The Duathlon activity is a creative and effective strategy to incorporate so many learning activities into a memorable event for all children involved. As a former educator, my mind is "spinning" with possibilities for the teaching of Christian values in addition to the many academic opportunities for the students of all ages which could fall into the totality of this learning experience - science, language arts, math, health,,, Very impressive!
