Congratulations to junior Kathy Hu and seniors Lauren McGrath and Carter McLean! The trio earned the highest possible composite score on the ACT, a 36.

Kathy participates in numerous school-related activities. She is a Writing, Math and Science Fellow, President of the Science Club, Co-President of Society of Words, Co-President of Beta Club and a member of Mu Alpha Theta and wind ensemble. Kathy has also participated in the LSU Math Circle and the Young Entrepreneurs Academy of Baton Rouge.

Lauren is actively involved in school life. She is a member and officer of Mu Alpha Theta, the Episcopal Science Club and an Honors Thesis student. In addition to academics, Lauren competes as a member of the Episcopal track and powerlifting teams. 

In addition to his strong academic accomplishments, Carter is also involved with Episcopal Cross Country, Quiz Bowl and the First United Methodist Youth Group. In the past, Carter has earned recognition for his achievements with the Episcopal Mu Alpha Theta and Youth Legislature student groups.

According to ACT, fewer than half of one percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2021, only 4,055 out of 1.29 million students who took the ACT earned a top composite score of 36. ACT scores are accepted by major four-year colleges and universities across the country.

As a college preparatory school, Episcopal dedicates considerable resources to help students prepare for their educational journey, including test taking. The College Counseling team works closely with students beginning in the eighth grade with the goal of helping students find the right school for their career aspirations. "We want to find the right fit for students based on their interests, goals, and achievement during high school," says College Counseling Director Justin Fenske. "A strong showing on the ACT or SAT can be one piece of that puzzle."

Episcopal established a partnership with Baton Rouge-based MasteryPrep to increase test awareness among students and boost students’ overall scores. That partnership means less stress and more learning for students and eliminates the need for families to spend money and time on test preparations outside of the school day.

Episcopal students excel academically. Upper School ACT scores, AP Scholar honors and National Merit Semifinalist recognition are just a few examples of that success. Lower and Middle School students are also excelling through project-based learning experiences and opportunities to boost their leadership and executive functioning skills.
