Five Ways Open House Attendance Can Help with Selecting a School

We often hear about school open houses, and you may wonder why a family would attend. Below are five ways that attending an open house makes the school selection process more manageable.

1.       Open house events are efficient.

We know that families are busy, and schedules are tight. To help families get the most out of their open house experience, we provide access to a range of school representatives all in one place. Student Ambassadors provide firsthand accounts of what it is like to be an Episcopal student. Faculty and staff showcase the academic and co-curricular experiences. In just one visit, families gain a good understanding of what Episcopal has to offer. The variety of information available for families should help them better understand the school and our mission and whether Episcopal is the right fit, without the need for multiple visits.

 2.       Families have the opportunity to imagine themselves as a member of the school community.

We hope that as families enter the Academic Commons or the new QUEST Center in Foster Hall they can imagine their student learning in those spaces. Open house tours provide access to Episcopal learning spaces with experienced staff or Student Ambassadors serving as guides. The opportunity to be in the classroom and see the resources available to support learning is important, especially for families who have had limited access to classrooms in recent school years.

 3.       Learn more about the school’s identity.

An open house provides the opportunity to learn more about what defines a school. Families learn about what the school does best and what sets them apart from others. In the case of Episcopal, families learn about our academics, arts and athletic opportunities and spiritual development experiences.

 4.       Open house events can be myth busters.

If you grew up in an area, you may think you already know what school is best for your student. However, families often leave a school open house with a new perspective and a new appreciation for the opportunities available. It’s important for families to be open to true exploration when attending an open house. Such openness makes the experience much more valuable.

 5.       Ask the questions you didn’t know you had.

What’s the application process? Will my child have to interview? Is tuition assistance available? Once families begin exploring school possibilities, countless questions arise. Admission department staff are available at the open house to assist,  an open house is a perfect opportunity to discuss tuition assistance and scholarship possibilities without having to disclose personal information.

Our admission team is ready to assist families considering an Episcopal education. If you are unable to join us for open house, please contact us about scheduling a private tour.
